About

I have been cooking and baking since I was 8 years old.  My first endeavor was making chocolate sauce in Girl Scouts which I promptly burnt! A smell never to forget.  My mother was a great influence: she never stood next to me nor behind me telling me what to do.  She just let me bake or cook anytime I wanted and was always near by to answer questions or look at what I had done and tell me if it was ok.

Though I have been in the kitchen perfecting my skills, I had never researched and experimented with a recipe nor compared recipes for the best of.  This inspiration came about earlier this year when I was on the search for the perfect vanilla cake, the results were amusing and inspiring, results which I will share later.  But this little experiment started me thinking about doing more of this.  My daughter promptly urged me to start a blog about my experimentation and that brings us to here.  I hope you  enjoy reading.

Susie – I am surprised there are no cupcakes. Whenever I am looking for a recipe, I go to the websites for Cooking LIght, Food Network, and Epicurious. I’ll often add Martha in there too. Now, I always go to yours too and have often found the perfect recipe I was looking for! I happen to be looking for whipped cream filled cupcakes and was surprised to see no cupcakes at all came up in my search on your site. Are you against cupcakes, like apple cider (I am using your pork and apples recipe this week – another one I searched for – and saw your comment about the cider).
    Love, Gail

Gail, Haha! I have absolutely nothing against cupcakes, just never think to make them! I either make cookies or a whole cake when I get a chance. I will have to make some cupcakes soon! 2 other great sites for cupcakes and baked goods in general, are Joy the Baker: http://www.joythebaker.com and King Arthur Flour http://www.kingarthurflour.com. Love, Susie
